Dandy Curb Bag’s Unique Design Saves a City
Unique Ability To Separate Silt From Storm Water Works Like A Charm
Location: Calgary, Canada
Product: Dandy Curb Bag
THE PROBLEM
During the summer of 2001, high-intensity, short-duration rainstorms were a daily event for the city of Calgary and surrounding areas. With construction and development occurring in multiple places, and with many grades over 5%, the risk of serious damage from sediment-laden storm water and flooding was a chronic problem in Springbank Hill and other subdivisions. Many products had been tried and they all failed miserably. The contractors (Rite-Way Fencing, Inc.) and the engineers (IBI Group) were bagged down with all the problems they had to continuously solve.
THE SOLUTION
The Dandy Curb Bag was chosen because of its ability to separate silt from storm water, its easy installation, and low maintenance (which reduced the job to a one-man operation). The bag was so trusted that it was put in every grate in the Springbank Hill development.
THE RESULTS
Previous products had resulted in mass flooding of residential streets and a significant amount of solids eventually ended up in the storm system. Once installed, the bags were put to the test immediately. The day after installation, Springbank Hill was hit with severe thunderstorms. The roads where caked with silt and debris from development that was picked up by the stormwater, and it was successfully filtered by the Dandy Curb Bags. At last their storm water saga had a happy ending – with only one man taking care of the job.
